In February 2025, Crytek announced that it would lay off an estimated 15% of its roughly 400 employees, citing financial sustainability. In the same announcement, the studio said development of the next Crysis game had been paused in the third quarter of 2024 so it could focus on its extraction shooter Hunt: Showdown 1896. Crytek did not say the game was cancelled, but it gave no timeline for resuming work, and we have not found any official update since.
The Story of Crysis 4
The storyline of previous games was based on a clash between humans, aliens and nanosuit-wearing soldiers, and Crysis 4 would be expected to continue it. The teaser does not confirm the protagonist, though fans have speculated about the return of a familiar character such as Nomad. The trailer alludes to a blazing sun, collapsing and rising buildings and a nanosuit helmet reminiscent of the one Nomad wore. It ends with a large 4, suggesting a direct sequel to Crysis 3.
The Gameplay of Crysis 4
According to formulas of previous games, Crysis 4 should feature a first-person shooting game along with some part of sandbox-style exploration and stealth. The game would introduce a nano suit as its core mechanic, letting players change modes and weapons. It may debut with a multiplayer or co-op mode, where players can stick together locally through the internet or in the same living room. The game could also come out with a live service or seasonal model.
