From getting a tutorial on how to put a diaper on your baby to drafting emails to planning trips to coding while integrating technical solutions, AI is deeply rooted in our lives now. The dilemma comes to decide on which is the best one and a wiser choice to make? The same is with vouching for today’s best essential and indispensable technology, AI – ChatGPT or Gemini AI, which one is the right choice? In this blog, we’ll be solving this confusion.
Updated October 2026. The model line-up, context-window and memory details were refreshed from OpenAI and Google documentation, outdated image-limit figures were removed, and the summary table now matches the body. The hands-on impressions below come from the author's use of both apps in 2025, so results with the newest models may differ.
Before we decide which technology is the best, we first need to understand how to judge it: the basis and fundamentals behind the comparison. Take a simple everyday example: every fruit is healthy, but sometimes one fruit meets a specific need better than others. That doesn’t mean the other fruits have no value.
Similarly, when it comes to AI apps, we’ll evaluate each one based on specific needs and then determine which performs best overall.
Both companies release new models quickly. As of October 2026, OpenAI’s developer documentation lists GPT-6 Astra as its most capable model, alongside GPT-6.1 Sol (near-Astra performance at a lower cost) and GPT-6 Luna (for high-volume tasks). Google’s Gemini API documentation lists Gemini 4 Argon as its flagship reasoning model, alongside Gemini 3.8 Flash, and Google’s subscription page says its Google AI Pro and AI Ultra plans include Gemini 4 Argon. Older models mentioned in earlier versions of this article, such as Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, have been shut down.
Which model you get inside the ChatGPT and Gemini apps depends on your plan (free or paid), and both companies change these line-ups often, so check each provider’s plan page before you subscribe.
Let’s dive into each usage and its best paired AI.
Daily Talks and Creative Writing
When I prompted Gemini AI with “Tell me a creative story,” it responded with just some paragraphs, like any chapter taken out of a book.
On the other hand, when I prompted the same to ChatGPT, it responded to me with “Alright, Shalley 🙂 “I’ll craft a creative, cinematic short story for you — something with mystery, emotion, and a little twist at the end.”
It wove the story’s narrative, titled it, gave it segments, and even asked me for further proceedings, saying If you want, Shalley, I can write you a series of such short, atmospheric stories — each one about something mysterious, beautiful, and a little unsettling, like a ‘Midnight Tales’ collection.”
ChatGPT adds a creative and more human touch with emotional responses and is a clear winner in the ‘Writing’ category.
Coding, Reasoning & Deep Research
ChatGPT and Gemini both handle math, reasoning, and coding well with their advanced models. In the author’s experience, ChatGPT gave slightly better debugging help, but results vary by model and task, so it is worth trying both on your own code.
Image Generation
The twist with image generation capabilities of ChatGPT & Gemini is that, though Gemini generates highly visually appealing images with eye-catching graphics even faster than ChatGPT but it comprises regular errors and image distortion.
Whereas ChatGPT takes a few seconds longer to come up with results, but errors and distortions are minimal, though it’s not perfect. But what I have recently discovered is that Gemini’s image accuracy is better than before.
Both AIs have image generation limits that vary with your plan (free or paid) and change over time, so check the current limits in each app before relying on them for a large project.
Video Generation
Gemini takes the lead in video generation with its new ‘Flow’ custom-designed only AI filmmaking tool for Google DeepMind’s most advanced models like Veo, Imagen, and Gemini. Flow, as the name suggests, allows you to craft cohesive narratives and organise all elements in one place, also allowing you to jump and extend scenes.
Memory and File Conversions
ChatGPT can convert files from one format to another, for example, a PDF to a presentation.
Both assistants can now remember details across conversations. ChatGPT’s memory learns about your preferences and choices from previous chats. Google says Gemini’s Memory setting, which is on by default, lets it learn from your past conversations over time, and you can turn it off under Settings, Personal context, Memory.
Context Window and Integration
Both have very large context windows in their developer versions. As of October 2026, OpenAI lists a context window of about 1.05 million tokens for GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna in its API, and Google lists a 1 million-token context window for Gemini 4 Argon. That makes both suitable for long texts, documentation, code bases, and multimodal inputs.
Inside the consumer apps, the usable context window can be smaller than the API figure and depends on your plan; for example, Google advertises a 1 million-token context window as a Google AI Pro benefit.
Gemini is deeply woven in and around Google services and Google apps, and allows you to directly use AI across Gmail, Google Docs, Music, Sheets, Drives, and Maps.
ChatGPT allows various plugins and third-party apps, like Slack, Trello, Notion, HubSpot, Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Zapier, and more, making it ideal for hybrid/multi-cloud environments.
ChatGPT Vs. Gemini AI – An Overview

Bringing it to a full circle: Google’s Gemini or OpenAI’s GPT?
After thoroughly looking at the pros and cons of both AI software for different purposes and domains, we can conclude that in most areas, OpenAI’s ChatGPT stands tall in various aspects, whilst it completely depends upon an individual’s requirements and field of work. Therefore, we may infer that different AI applications can be used distinctively when it comes to you being a visionary filmmaker, a creative writer and storyteller, a number cruncher, a tech-savvy coder, or an amazing homemaker.
