With the surge in digitalisation, the need for an accessible source of security has enormously increased. Threats such as malware, unsafe Wi-Fi networks and online tracking are part of everyday phone use, and a digital security app can help you avoid them. Digital Secure is Verizon’s security service for smartphones and computers, and the app is preinstalled on many Verizon Android phones. In this article, we explain what Digital Secure does, what it costs and what you should know before you use it.
Updated October 2026. We re-checked Digital Secure’s plans and prices, noted that the app is now listed as Verizon Protect in the app stores, and clarified how disabling the app relates to billing.
What is Digital Secure?
Digital Secure is a Verizon service that provides several security and identity tools for your mobile devices. Its security features include safe browsing, Wi-Fi scanning and device checks, and the paid tier adds a VPN, dark web monitoring, identity restoration help and chat access to security advisors. In the Apple App Store and Google Play, the app is now listed as Verizon Protect, by Verizon Wireless.
Features of Digital Secure
With the security application Digital Secure, you get access to a plethora of features that include,
- Browsing With Safety: While there has been a surge in risky websites, digital security protects you from them.
- Wi-fi Scan: For utilising a wi-fi, scan it to make sure it is encrypted and away from the prying eyes
- Secure VPN: Along with an ensured secure wi-fi connection, with a secure VPN in Digital Secure, your location is hidden, and you can initiate a private search
- Identity Protection: Digital Secure will alert you if your identity is listed on the dark web
- Security Advisory: Have a doubt? Chat with Digital Secure Security Advisory for guidance, security tips, help, and more.

Availability of Digital Secure
The app comes preinstalled on many Verizon Android phones. Verizon customers with other phones can download it as Verizon Protect from the iOS App Store or Google Play. The paid tier can be added in the app or in My Verizon.
Pricing
As of October 2026, Verizon lists Digital Secure at $5 per month per line or $10 per month per account, and offers a bundle with its Identity Secure service that works out to $9 per line or $18 per account per month after a bill credit. The basic features (safe browsing, Wi-Fi scanning and device checks) are free. You can manage or cancel the subscription from My Verizon. Prices and promotions change, so check Verizon’s site before you subscribe.
When Does Digital Secure Send a “Warning Alert”?
Since Digital Secure is designed to protect you from malware software and other risks, it sends alerts when:
- You are browsing online and open an unsafe or malicious link.
- You download an app that is flagged as unsafe (malware scanning of apps is available on Android, not on iPhone or iPad).
- You connect to a public Wi-Fi network that is unsecured or weakly protected.
Is Digital Secure Safe/Legal?
Digital Secure is a legitimate service from Verizon. Like any security app, it needs broad permissions to work; for example, safe browsing needs access to your browsing activity. Its Wi-Fi scan warns about weak networks but does not block connections, and dark web monitoring alerts you after your data has been exposed rather than preventing a breach.
Along with these points, here are other things to consider if you are looking at Digital Secure.
Does Digital Secure Cause the Battery to Drain Faster?
In many instances, owing to digital security, several features running in the background of the devices cause the battery to drain faster. In such cases, if you are not a regular user of the application, you can try to uninstall it.

Verizon Digital Secure Review: Pros and Cons
Based on Verizon’s product information and published reviews, here are the pros and cons of the application.
Pros of Digital Secure
- Basic protection (safe browsing, Wi-Fi scanning and device checks) is free
- One account plan covers multiple lines for $10 per month
- Wi-Fi security checks and a built-in VPN in the paid tier
- Paid tier extends protection to PCs and Macs
- Access to Verizon security advisors by chat
Cons of Digital Secure
- Not everything is free, and you have to pay for the premium features
- Malware scanning is not available on iPhone or iPad
- Identity tools such as social media monitoring and data broker removal need the separate Identity Secure add-on
- It is available only to Verizon customers
Can You Remove/Disable Verizon Services?
If you installed the app yourself on an iPhone or Android phone, you can uninstall it like any other app. On Verizon Android phones where it came preinstalled, you may not be able to uninstall it completely.
In that case, you can turn off the application. On most Android phones, menu names vary slightly by model:
- Open your phone’s “Settings.”
- Go to “Apps” and select “All apps” (or “See all apps”).
- Find and tap the Digital Secure or Verizon Protect app.
- Tap “Force stop.”
- When the app has stopped, tap “Disable.”
Digital Secure is not essential to your phone, so it can be force-stopped or disabled, which stops its protection on that device.
Note: Disabling or uninstalling the app does not cancel a paid subscription. Verizon says that to stop the charges, you need to unsubscribe in the My Verizon app or on the My Verizon website.
Conclusion
A security app that protects you from malicious software and risky networks is useful for most smartphone users. Digital Secure combines several of these tools in one service for Verizon customers, with basic features free and a paid tier for the VPN, identity monitoring and advisor support. Check the current price and what your phone supports before you subscribe.
