Life360 is a family location-sharing app. Its private groups are called Circles, and you can leave a Circle at any time from the app’s settings. This guide follows Life360’s Help Center as of October 2026. Menu names can change between app versions, so check the labels in your own app.
Quick answer: how to leave a Life360 Circle
- Open the Life360 app and sign in.
- If you belong to more than one Circle, tap the Circle Switcher at the top of the map and select the Circle you want to leave.
- Open Settings (the gear icon).
- Tap Circle Management.
- Tap Leave Circle, then confirm.
After you leave, the Circle no longer appears in your Circle Switcher, and its members no longer see your location in that Circle. Leaving one Circle doesn’t affect any other Circles you belong to.
If you are the Circle’s Admin
Every Circle must have at least one Admin. Life360 says that if you are an Admin, you can assign a new Admin before you leave. If you don’t, the app automatically designates a new Circle Admin.
What leaving does and doesn’t do
- It stops sharing with that Circle only. If you’re in several Circles, such as one for family and one for friends, you have to leave each one separately.
- It doesn’t cancel a paid membership. Life360’s Terms of Service say that leaving a Circle, deleting the app or deleting your account does not cancel a paid membership. If you pay for Life360, cancel the subscription separately through the store or account you used to buy it.
- Rejoining needs a new invitation. To join again, a current member has to share a Circle invite code with you. Life360 says these codes expire after 72 hours.
What is a Life360 Circle?
A Circle is a private group in Life360. Members can see each other’s locations on a shared map, and depending on the plan and settings, they can also use features such as place alerts, check-ins and driving reports. Many people have separate Circles for close family, extended family or friends. You join a Circle by entering an invite code from an existing member: tap the Circle Switcher, choose Join a Circle, and enter the code.
Alternative: turn off location sharing instead of leaving
If you want to stay in a Circle but stop sharing your location for a while, Life360 lets you turn off location sharing for that Circle:
- Select the Circle with the Circle Switcher.
- Open Settings and tap Location Sharing.
- Switch the slider off.
This is not hidden from other members. Life360’s Help Center says that when you turn location sharing off, other members of that Circle see “Location Sharing Paused” under your name. It also lists some exceptions:
- Tapping Check In still shares a location.
- Sending an SOS alert shares your location with every Circle you’re in.
- If Crash Detection is on and a collision is detected, your location is shared with your Circle and emergency contacts.
- Turning off sharing doesn’t erase location history Life360 has already collected.
How to remove someone from a Circle (Admins only)
Only Admins can remove a member, and Life360 notifies the person who is removed. To do it, select the Circle with the Circle Switcher, then go to Settings > Circle Management > Delete Circle Members, choose the member and confirm.
Can you delete a Circle?
Life360’s Help Center doesn’t describe a separate “delete Circle” button. If you created a Circle you no longer need, an Admin can remove the other members and then leave it. If you need a Circle and its data removed entirely, contact Life360 support, because how unused Circles and their data are handled isn’t covered in the public help articles.
Talk to your Circle before you leave
Location sharing works best when everyone has agreed to it. Life360 itself says it isn’t possible to stop someone from turning off location sharing if they don’t want to be located. If you want more privacy, the straightforward options are to tell your Circle, turn off location sharing, or leave the Circle.
We don’t recommend location-spoofing or “fake GPS” apps for hiding where you are. They mean giving another app control over your phone’s location, and they can stop features like SOS and Crash Detection from sharing your real location when you need help. If you feel unsafe because someone is tracking you, contact local support services or the police.

FAQs
Will other members know I left the Circle?
Life360’s Help Center doesn’t say whether members get an alert when someone leaves, but you will no longer appear in that Circle, so members are likely to notice. Removal by an Admin is different: Life360 says it notifies the removed member.
Does deleting the Life360 app remove me from a Circle?
Use Leave Circle to leave a Circle. Deleting the app on its own isn’t the documented way to leave, and it doesn’t cancel a paid membership.
Can I be in more than one Circle?
Yes. Use the Circle Switcher to move between Circles. Location sharing and leaving are both set separately for each Circle.
